5th Grade Review week (March 23-27)

Lab Part 1A:

Over the past few weeks we have been learning all about the Earth's water.   Watch this video below to discover more about the wonders of water:
Click here to watch the TWIG wonder of water video

After watching the video can you answer the following questions:

1.  What is water like at room temperature?
2.  What are the 3 main states of water?
3.  Why is it important that water can dissolve many substances?
(Feel free to write down your answers or share them orally with your family)

Water conservation is something we have been discussing in class. We can all do our part in protecting this valuable resource.

Share with your family what you have learned.

Can you come up with your own ways to conserve water at home?
*Remember:
It takes 36 gallons to fill a bathtub
It takes 20 gallons for a 10 min. shower
It takes 15 gallons of water per load of laundry
It takes 2.5 gallons of water for brushing your teeth

Read the water conservation article below and answer the comprehension set attached.

Watch this video below for some ideas of water conservation.

Perhaps you can make a family chart and come up with a plan to conserve water. Feel free to e-mail me your ideas:  klawrence@srvusd.net

Lab Part 2B:

Here you will be reviewing the Water Cycle.  Teach your family this catchy song.  Try to come up with some dance moves or hand motions to go along.  I would love to see them when we get back to lab!

Please watch this TWIG video about the water cycle:  CLICK HERE

Respond to the following questions.  You can write these down in your notebook or share your answers with your family members.

1.  What are the 4 main parts of the water cycle?
2.  What percentage of the Earth is covered with water

Watch this video from Mystery Doug to learn more about the water cycle:  CLICK HERE
Respond to the following questions:

1.  How does evaporation work?
2.  Why is the ocean water salty?
3.  Do you think the ocean is getting more or less salty over time?

Bonus:  Can you sketch the water cycle?  Maybe draw it with chalk outside or make a watercolor sketch. Maybe you can build a model with clay or scrap materials you have at home.  Have fun and be creative!

Feel free to send me pictures of what you have come up with.  I would love to see them!  I miss you all.
