4th grade review (March 30-Apr 3)

Lab part 1: Energy

In science lab we have been using batteries as our energy to explore different types of circuits and conductors and insulators. What this sort mystery science on how batteries work! When the discussion question pops up, either discuss with an adult or write down the question ad brainstorm as many ideas you come up with.

mystery science on batteries:

1. What caused the frog leg two twitch?
2. What was the first battery made out of?

Click here to explore a twig science video all about energy sources.

Do an energy sources scavenger hunt where you live. Find as many places and appliances that use electricity or are energy sources!

Lab part 2: Electricity

During lab one week we explored how static electricity works with using a paper towel, plastic wrap, salt and paperclips. Lightning is form of static electricity and is extremely powerful. Have you ever seen lightning before? What did it look like? What was the weather like?

Click here to watch this twig video on the wonder of lightning.

Try these experiments if you have these materials at home:

1. Cut up some tissue paper into small squares. Run a comb through your hair to charge the comb with static electricity. Then hold the comb over the neutral tissue paper and observe what happens.

2. Rub a balloon on your hair. Then slowly pull the ballon away from your hair. You can also try rubbing a balloon with some wool and and hovering it over some cut up pieces of tissue paper.

I would love to see if you try some of these experiments. Send me a video or picture of your exploration!
