3rd grade review (Mar. 23-27)

Lab Part 1: Physical Traits for survival

Hello scientists! In lab we have been discussing what our physical traits are and observing traits in other living organisms. Share some traits you may have inherited from your parents or grandparents ( i.e., hair / eye color,  etc.). Talk about your family tree. Make a chart of traits with those around you.

Spot the similarities and differences between these puppies' traits (fur color, physical features).
Make a T chart if you have a pencil and paper! Notice where they are located in this picture. Does the environment look warm or cold. And what traits do we think these puppies have that will help them survive in this environment?

Lab part 2: Behavioral traits

View the following videos and discuss characteristics of animals. Living organisms have physical traits that help them survive but they also express behaviors to communicate with one another. Pause the video when mystery Doug instructs you and write down your ideas. For fun check out the bonuses! Enjoy!

Come up with other behaviors traits that cats (or your favorite animal) express.

1. What are they trying to communicate?

2. How could this be beneficial in nature?
